EDEN – The Victory Christian Lions picked up their first win of the season Tuesday as they defeated the Fayetteville Wolves 57-49.
The Lions finished the first quarter with an 18-8 lead behind eight points from Aaron Jernigan.
By halftime, Victory Christian led 26-17. Fayetteville outscored the Lions 15-14 in the third quarter to make it 40-32 heading into the fourth.
Victory Christian head coach Bruce Breland said it was a tremendous win and boost for his guys.
“They have been working hard and improving every week,” Breland said. “Sometimes, it doesn’t always show on the scoreboard. There were times during this game that we executed very well. We played very hard defensively, and I am proud of the team effort. This was definitely a team win.”
Two Lions scored in double figures, with Jernigan leading the way with 19 points. Forrest Williams was close behind with 16. Dalton Luellen (eight), Pate Cheatwood (six), Abraham Sargent (five) and Ashton Love (three) also scored for Victory Christian.
JB Matson led Fayetteville with 14 points. Jon Dalton Pate also finished in double figures for the Wolves, closing with 13.
Blake Bagley added eight points, while Blake Machen chipped in seven. Brady Ritchey pumped in five, and Cole Rogers finished with two.
