PELL CITY -- A Pell City hair salon hopes to put smiles on the faces of cancer patients and survivors during the sixth annual Styles Make Smiles event Valentine’s Day week.
“We want to help them feel better about themselves,” said Lauren Isbell, with The HoneyComb Salon, which is hosting this year’s event, which is sponsored by local businesses.
The event provides free makeup, hair styling, nail care services, wigs, hats, turbans, scarves, eye lashes and more.
“We will provide refreshments and special gift bags for them, too,” said Teresa Carden, one of the organizers.
Isbell said the event is for cancer patients and survivors and is slated for 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 16.
Isbell, who has participated in the event every year, said Styles Make Smiles is always held on Friday during Valentine’s week.
“Most people go out on Friday night,” she said.
Isbell said cancer survivors, both men and women, only need to call The HoneyComb Salon at 205-525-4483 or 205-473-5206 to make their appointment. The salon is at 311 26th St. N.
Isbell said Styles make Smiles normally serve about 25-30 people each year, both men and women. She said instead of makeup, men may get skin care treatments.
“Last year, we had a man with a beard,” Isbell said. “We trimmed his beard, instead of a hairstyle.”
The event will help take care of the necessities of cancer patients and survivors getting ready for that Friday night Valentine’s Day date, Carden said.
“We have so many businesses that support this, which is really great,” Isbell said. “Everyone looks forward to this every year. It’s great to see a smile from people who are going through something like this.”
