RAGLAND – St. Clair County Board of Education members Angie Cobb and John DeGaris shared during a meeting Monday, Jan. 29, that they would not seek re-election in November.
Cobb said she has enjoyed working alongside fellow board members and Superintendent Jenny Seals.
“This is my 12th year to be on the Board of Education,” Cobb said. “It has been a pleasure to serve with the other board members, but I feel like it is time for someone else to be on the board.
“I feel like I have made some good decisions and some bad decisions, but I made the best decisions I could at the time with the facts that I had.
“I knew when I left board meetings after casting a vote, I went home and could lay my head down and know that the good Lord had provided me with everything I needed to make the best decisions that I could.
“We as board members did not always agree, but a lot of times we did agree. A lot of times we didn’t agree to disagree, but there were times we did agree to disagree.
“It’s a job. You give a lot of service. It’s something you do because you want to make a difference. You love the kids and the staff of the St. Clair County Schools. That’s the only reason why you could or should do it.”
Said DeGaris, “I would like to express my humble and sincere appreciation to the citizens of St. Clair County for allowing me to serve them on this Board of Education for 18 years. I will not be seeking re-election when my current term ends in November.”
