Springville Tigers

Springville defeated Corner in the area tournament Tuesday and will play Mortimer Jordan for the area championship Thursday night.

The Springville Tigers defeated Corner 53-47 in the opening round of the Class 5A, Area 11 tournament that was played at Mortimer Jordan.

The Tigers held Corner to just two points in the opening quarter and led 8-2 headed into the second quarter.

With a 14-11 scoring edge in the second period, Springville’s lead was 22-13 at halftime.

Corner won the scoring battle in the second half 34-31, but the Tigers prevailed 53-47.

Springville shot 48 percent from the field (18-of-37), and outscored Corner in the paint 30-10.

Two Springville players scored in double figures with Chase Isbell leading the way with 16 points. Close behind was Jacob Bickerstaff with 13 points. Max Harrison scored eight points while Brandon Daniels and Trevor Hurst added seven points each. Hudson Kersh totaled two points.

Springville now plays in the area tournament finals against host Mortimer Jordan Thursday, Feb. 8. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
