ASHVILLE – The Springville Tigers scored the final 20 points of the game to defeat the Ashville Bulldogs 33-22 for their first win of the season.
Quarterback Austin Hutcheson was 20-for-32, passing for 158 yards and one touchdown. Hutcheson also used his feet to get into the end zone, scoring on runs of 8 and 39 yards.
The Bulldogs started strong, with Chris Sanders recovering a Springville fumble on the first play of the game at the Tiger 41. On the very next play, Derrick Walker scored on a 41-yard touchdown run. Walker also ran in the 2-point conversion to make it 8-0.
The Tigers answered on a 2-yard run by Bradlee Cole. The 2-point conversion was no good. Springville grabbed its first lead on the 8-yard touchdown run. The PAT by Hunter Ambrose was good, making it 13-8 after one quarter of play.
Ashville regained the lead on a 47-yard touchdown run by Ty Armstrong. The PAT by Reid Eastis was good, making the score 15-13 halfway through the second quarter.
The Bulldogs padded their lead as Armstrong raced 11 yards from the Wildcat position with 1:27 remaining before halftime, making the score 22-13.
Springville ran its 2-minute offense to perfection as they drove 61 yards in 11 plays to score with 4 seconds remaining in the second quarter. Hutcheson was 4-for-8 on the drive for 27 yards, including the 1-yard touchdown pass to Cole, making the halftime score 22-19.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Tigers scored two fourth quarter touchdowns – the first on a 2-yard run by Cole and the second on the 39-yard run by Hutcheson, to make the final score 33-22.

■73 – The Springville defense did not allow any points in the second half and held Ashville to 73 total yards in the final two quarters.
Both teams enter region play for the first time this season as Springville, 1-1, travels to Sylacauga to take on the 2-0 Aggies. Ashville travels to Jacksonville to take on the 2-0 Eagles.
