Talladega High School’s boys basketball team defeated Lincoln 85-60 on Tuesday in the opening round of the Class 5A, Area 10 tournament at Central Clay County High School in Lineville.
The Tigers grabbed a 16-10 lead in the first quarter and entered halftime ahead 44-23.
Lincoln trailed Talladega 66-42 going into the final period.
Forward Kobe Simmons led the Tigers with 19 points and nine rebounds. Senior guard Fred Dickerson recorded a double-double with 18 points and 15 assists to go with his six steals.
Forward JQ Wilson contributed 18 points and seven rebounds. Forward Rontavious Barclay (14 points) and guard Chaztin Tanner (10) rounded out Talladega’s players who finished with double figures.
Talladega head coach Chucky Miller said the Tigers had to play without senior guard Ashton Duncan, who missed the game due to an illness.
Lincoln’s Earl Wells finished with 18 points, while Javion Surles chipped in 12.
Talladega will face Central Clay County for the area championship on Thursday at 7 p.m.
TC Central 55, Victory Christian 31
At Alpine in the 1A, Area 7 tournament, Devilyn Keller scored 14 points to lead the Fighting Tigers.
The Fighting Tigers enjoyed a 15-7 lead after one quarter and took a 30-17 advantage into halftime. TC Central increased the margin to 42-24 going into the final eight minutes.
Keller was the only player for TC Central to reach double-digits, but the Fighting Tigers had several others make contributions.
Lakedrick Tuck scored nine points for the Fighting Tigers. Makhail Simmons and Jayden Jones added eight apiece.
Harrison Cheatwood led the way for the Lions with 17 points.
