ASHVILLE -- Ashville Councilman Cliff Roberts was arrested Sunday and charged with driving under the influence.
Roberts, 41, was arrested by the Ashville Police Department.
According to jail documents, Roberts was taken to the St. Clair County Jail in Ashville, where he posted a $1,000 bond. His court date is scheduled for March 11.
Ashville police Chief Ed Hampton said because the matter is still under investigation, he was not able to comment.
Roberts was elected as an Ashville councilman, Place 2, in 2016. This is his first term in that position. Roberts is also the superintendent of the Steele Water Department, a position he has held since 2012.
Steele Mayor Roger Adams declined to comment, while Ashville Mayor Derrick Mostella was not available for immediate comment Thursday.
