Golf ball

SYLACAUGA -- If it’s football season and fall, then it’s time for the fun-filled ball drop.

The 13th annual Ultimate Ball Drop will be Friday, Oct. 19, after the Sylacauga vs. Central of Clay County football game.

Sylacauga’s Promise, in conjunction with SAFE Family Services, is spearheading the annual golf ball drop.

The ball drop is the only fundraiser Promise holds each year, and the proceeds benefit community youth programs such as the after-school Bridges tutoring program, Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) and the Sylacauga Grows Community Garden.
“It helps us with the funds to ensure every child has the opportunity to have the five promises fulfilled in their lives – caring adults, safe places, healthy start for a healthy future, an effective education and opportunities to serve,” said Debbie Danelutt with the Sylacauga Promise Committee.

Donations are $5 per ticket, and all donations are tax deductible.

Many businesses donate $5 for each of their employees for an opportunity to win $5,000.

What is a ball drop? Tickets have corresponding numbers on golf balls that will ultimately be dropped onto the football field  from a crane after the game is over. The ball that lands in the hole or is the closest to the hole wins the $5,000.

The ball drop is sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Pursell. SWEN Communications provides the tickets, and the crane will be provided by Conn Equipment Rental.

If any business wants to purchase tickets for the event, call SAFE at 256-245-4343.

Tickets will be also sold at the ball game.
