PELL CITY -- A vehicle fire on Interstate 20 on Friday night caused major traffic headaches but did not injure anyone, according to Alabama State Troopers.
The cab of a 2007 Freightliner tractor trailer apparently caught fire on the eastbound side of I-20 at mile marker 155, just outside of Pell City, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. The driver escaped the cab without injury, and there were no other vehicles involved.
ALEA said the fire was put out fairly quickly, but transferring the metal beams the truck was hauling into another vehicle took considerably longer. The cleanup effort continued until after midnight, causing major traffic delays.
The cause of the fire had not been determined Saturday evening.
