TALLADEGA -- The Talladega Fire Department responded to 11 calls during the past week, including two traffic accidents resulting in minor injuries.

The first call of the week was a false alarm on the square, followed by a controlled burn at Alabama 77 and Arnold Street; both calls came in Jan. 5.

The first accident was Jan. 6, on East Battle, when one vehicle ran a red light and was hit by another vehicle. Both drivers were uninjured, but one of the passengers was transported to the emergency room by North Star Ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

The first call on Jan. 7 was to a medical call at Curry Court apartments, followed by a canceled call to Winston Drive.

On Monday, firefighters responded to a vehicle fire on Russell Drive and an unauthorized burn on Alabama 77 North. The next day, calls were answered for an accidental alarm on Cherry Street, a downed power line in Amanda Bingham Park and what appeared to be a brush fire near Houston Elementary. According to Capt. Ron Harrell, however, it turned out to be an authorized controlled burn by a construction company.

The last call of the week was to a one-vehicle accident on West Parkway that resulted in two people being transported to the emergency room.
