Talladega College has announced that renowned R&B group “Midnight Star” will be giving a special performance during the Talladega College Presidential Scholarship Fundraiser at 8 p.m. Friday, May 4, in the Callanan Gymnasium on campus.
“The Presidential Scholarship Fundraiser is one of many events held in conjunction with Talladega’s 101st Alumni Weekend Celebration,” a press release reads
The evening will also feature performances by Stephanie Sallie and AHYONZ featuring Kenya C.
“Midnight Star” was formed in 1976 at Kentucky State University by the Calloway brothers, with vocalist Belinda Lipscomb.
In 1980, their first album, “The Beginning,” was released and they have since performed “for audiences throughout the world,” the press release says.
Hit songs include “Operator,” “Freak-A-Zoid,” “Hot Spot,” “Don’t Rock the Boat” and “I’ve Been Watching You.”
“Stephanie Sallie has opened for many major performers, including The Ohio Players, Maze & Frankie Beverly,” the release states.
AHYONZ featuring Kenya C. has also performed for the HollyRod Foundation’s Annual Benefit Auction as part of the 2011 Super Bowl weekend -- among various other events.
General admission tickets are $35. VIP tickets are $50.
