SYLACAUGA -- A Sylacauga man has been arrested on a charge of theft of property in the first degree in connection with the theft of an LED sign and utility trailer, according to Sgt. Mike Jones of the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office.
Jonathan Michael Trucks, 43, was arrested Wednesday, Jones said. Bond in the case was set at $5,000, and Trucks remained in the Talladega County Metro Jail on Thursday afternoon, according to jail records.
Trucks is accused of stealing a Daktronics Galaxy AF-3400 outdoor display and the 10-foot trailer it sat on during the early morning hours of New Year’s Eve. The sign and the trailer have a combined value of $20,000, according to an incident and offense report filed at the time.
The sign belonged to a business on U.S. 280 near Sylacauga. There was at least one witness to the theft.
Jones said the sign and trailer had been recovered, and Sylacauga police had helped identify Trucks and to find him once a warrant for his arrest had been issued.
Jail records indicate Trucks may also have charges in Coosa County, although it was not immediately clear what those charges were.
Theft of property in the first degree is a class B felony in Alabama, punishable upon conviction by two to 20 years in prison.
