Talladega Police today continued to investigate a shooting reported at a club on the 100 block of Johnson Avenue early Sunday morning, according to incident and offense reports.

According to Capt. Patrick Thornton, an argument began inside the club between two groups of women. The altercation escalated to the point where participants’ family members were insulted, but remained verbal, Thornton said. One group was asked to leave, but the altercation apparently spilled into the parking lot.

At this point, Thornton said, some of the boyfriends of the women in the group that had been asked to leave also got involved. Two of them left and said they were going to get guns. The police were called, but the men were not there when officers arrived, and the club owner got everyone back inside.

Sometime later, several shots were fired into the building, although no one inside was hit.

Police recovered 11 spent 9 mm shell casings in the parking lot, as well as a bag of marijuana. It was not immediately clear if the marijuana was in any way related to the events surrounding the shooting.

Thornton said it appeared the building had been hit 10 times.

Although there are suspects in the case, no arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon.
