RAGLAND -- Ragland police arrested and charged a man with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia Monday.
Police Chief James “Bubba” Brown said Officer Danny Watson stopped a vehicle at 4:40 p.m. on Alabama 144 near Society Knob (across from the cement plant) with an expired tag.
Brown identified the suspect as Mark LaDale Jackson, 54, of Ragland.
“Officer Watson smelled an odor of marijuana as he approached the vehicle,” Brown said. “Watson searched the vehicle, finding 4 grams of methamphetamines (ICE), along with drug paraphernalia.”
Brown said unlawful possession of a controlled substance is a class D felony, and if found guilty, Jackson could face one to five years in prison. Possession of drug paraphernalia is a misdemeanor.
Jackson was taken to the St. Clair County Jail in Ashville. He was released shortly after his arrest, posting $2,500 bond on the charge of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and a $1,000 bond on the charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. His initial court date is scheduled for Jan. 10.
