TALLADEGA -- Dozens of volunteers came together Saturday to help build sturdy bunk beds to supply children in need a bed to sleep in.
The United Way of North Talladega County and Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a Gadsden-based nonprofit, teamed up to build the 40 beds in the parking lot of the Greater Talladega and Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce.
People of all ages came to saw, sand, varnish and assemble the beds. The work was done in an assembly line directed by the skilled crew of Sleep in Heavenly Peace. New sheets, pillows and other bedding supplies were donated by local individuals and civic organizations to accompany the beds.
