TALLADEGA -- The Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind held a commencement ceremony for the graduating seniors from the Helen Keller School, Alabama School for the Blind and Alabama School for the Deaf on Thursday, May 21.
The combined ceremony, held at McFarlane Auditorium on the campus of ASD, included seniors, staff and a select few family members.
Normally, the schools hold separate services on their respective campuses, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the service was held at one location under strict guidelines to provide enough room for proper social distancing. Everyone in attendance answered health questions and had their temperature taken.
Former AIDB President Dr. Terry Graham gave the commencement address, and ASB's Chassidy Thomas and ASD's Hunter Stults gave their valedictorian addresses to the students, family and staff in attendance. AIDB Vice President Vera Hendrix emceed the abbreviated program, which concluded with the presentation of diplomas to the Class of 2020.
