This past Sunday, Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church hosted a Shower of Blessings event where members of the congregation brought baby items to donate to the local pregnancy center, Ann's New Life Pregnancy Medical Center.
Sharon Stice, who chairs the church’s Pro Life Committee and is a fundraiser volunteer for Ann’s New Life Center, said Sunday’s event also included a Baby Bottle Drive, where members of the congregation who were given baby bottles in January returned them on Sunday, filled with spare change.
Stice said guest speakers at the Shower of Blessings were Daniel and Michelle Schachle of Tennessee. Nine of their 13 children attended the event with them.
The couple spoke to the crowd about the miracles concerning their youngest child, who was not expected to live through birth.
Stice said not only did the infant survive, but the baby boy was at the Shower of Blessings going from lap to lap as his parents spoke.
During the event, the local Knights of Columbus presented Dani Christophersen, the CEO of Ann's New Life Pregnancy Medical Center, with a check for $2,500.
The Knights Ladies Auxiliary presented the nonprofit with an additional $400.
Christophersen gave a brief update on the organization, Stice said, reporting that the Ann’s New Life Center in Pell City became a medical clinic March 2017 and is now able to perform free ultrasounds.
Ann's New Life also opened a second location in Leeds.
Stice said teens in the Confirmation class also held a "dipey-wipey drive" to provide diapers and wipes for expecting moms at Ann's New Life Center.
