TALLADEGA -- Talladega police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect in the robbery of a liquor store Monday evening.

According to Lt. Jimmy Thompson, the suspect entered CG’s Liquor at West and Howard streets at 10:30 p.m. Based on witness accounts and video, the suspect is a young male, but he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, a dark colored mask and gloves, so no further detailed description was available.

The suspect pulled out a gun and demanded the contents of the register. Thompson said when the clerk did not respond quickly enough, the suspect struck him in the head with the butt of the gun. The suspect then fled on foot with about $400 cash from the register.

The clerk was transported to the emergency room of Brookwood Baptist Health Center/Citizens Baptist Medical Center for treatment of the injury he sustained in the robbery.

As of Tuesday afternoon, no suspects had been identified in the case.
