TALLADEGA -- Talladega police are asking for the public to help identify a suspect in a recent home burglary.

According to Lt. Jimmy Thompson, the break-in took place around 1 a.m. Thursday on Burr Avenue. The resident was not home at the time but later reported that about $300 worth of miscellaneous jewelry and a television set valued at $400 were missing.

Thompson said police were alerted to the burglary while it was still in progress. When patrol officers arrived, they found a black male wearing a black and blue hooded sweatshirt leaving the residence. A brief foot chase ensued, but the suspect got away, Thompson said.

The suspect is further described as being 5-feet-8 or 5-feet-9-inches tall and weighing about 175 pounds.

One of the officers involved in the chase lost his baton, which had still not been recovered as of Thursday afternoon, Thompson said.

Anyone with information about this incident should contact the Talladega Police Department at 256-362-4508 or call the anonymous tip line at 256-299-0011.
