PELL CITY -- Crews began the demolition of the St. Clair County Jail in Pell City on Monday. St. Clair County Commission Chairman Paul Manning said the demolition is part of the process in building a new expanded facility.
Manning said the process has been slow to start but may now begin to speed up. He said he hopes the new facility can be finished within 18 months.
St. Clair Sheriff Billy Murray said the operation of the county jail is an essential part of the work done by his office. He said he knows the process will take time, but he looks forward to working with other county agencies to complete the project.
