PELL CITY -- The AARP Tax Aide Center in Pell City has completed another successful year of assisting local residents file their tax returns. A big thank you is owed to the city manager and mayor for allowing AARP volunteers the use of a facility free of charge, Lacey Mills of the Pell City Boys and Girls Club as well as David Atchison for his support publishing photographs and articles about the service.
Although there were numerous free tax assistance programs in Jefferson County, we were pleased to be able to offer this free service for the third year in St. Clair County. We helped local residents meeting certain criteria save hundreds of dollars in preparation fees and are busy now making plans for improved processes next year.
This service would not be possible without the sponsorship of the American Association of Retired Persons, local volunteers and the vision of the founders of the Pell City Center, Stan Atkins and John Rickards. Their efforts and commitment to the community are much-appreciated by both volunteers and tax clients.
