TALLADEGA -- One hundred miles is a long drive in a car. It’s even longer on a bicycle. But that’s what a majority of the more than 160 registered riders were challenged to complete Saturday in The Children’s Home Challenge Bike Ride.
The event was back for its third year with even more participants in its first year as part of the Alabama Backroads Century Series. The series is a collection of 13 individual rides across the state.
Rides include at least three courses for beginners all the way up to seasoned cyclists. The Challenge ride consisted of the Century 100-mile course, Metric Century 66-mile course, 30-mile course and a 5-mile course.
Doug Marshall, president and CEO of The Presbyterian Home for Children, said he was proud to host a first-class event and premier bike series such as this in the 150th year the Home has been helping homeless and at-risk youth.
The proceeds from this event will go directly towards the care and support of the children at the Home.
