Northside Fellowship Church in Pell City will celebrate its second anniversary with a singing next month.
The singing, which will feature, Exodus – Southern Gospel, is slated for 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at the church, which is at 19356 U.S. 231, directly across from Alabama 174.
“The singing will follow the regular church service,” said Cathy Parker, one of the organizers for the event. She said Exodus includes singers Mary Scott, Susan Brady and Hannah Brady.
Mike Watson of Pell City, who was the original member of the group, died of cancer, but the group continues the work, traveling across the country singing at special church events, Parker said.
“Mike wouldn’t have wanted it any other way,” she said. “His son sang with them for a while, but he has since moved on to another group.”
The group was formed in 2011, and the initial group had attended the same church, Higher Ground Baptist Church in Gadsden.
Parker said she hopes the singing will draw people to the church, as it prepares to celebrate its second year of teaching the gospel.
“We’re a new church, so we’re trying to reach out to the community,” she said.
The church was formerly Heritage Baptist Church. The pastor for Northside Fellowship Church is Joey Rich.
Sunday school starts at 9 a.m., and Sunday worship services start at 10 a.m. Northside Fellowship Church also has Wednesday services at 6:30 p.m.
Parker said local singers will perform during intermission, and the “singing” is expected to last less than two hours.
The event is free and the public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
