Although it may not feel like it outside, summer is once again winding down and the new school year is starting back. And the new school year is not the only thing about to kick off.

Sunday from 5-7 p.m., Hepzibah Baptist Church in Talladega will host the fall ministry kickoff in the church parking lot. There will be inflatables for both younger children and for teens, a dunking booth, Blue Bell ice cream courtesy of Pop the Top Soda Shop, hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn and a general carnival atmosphere, according to music and education minister Tommy Strickland. There will be games like Corn Hole and others that will be familiar from previous fall festivals, and there will also be sign-up and registration for fall classes and programs at the church. Everything is free, as a form of community outreach.

The event will move indoors in the event of rain.

The biggest new program will be a discipleship group primarily for adults, but drawing churchwide. This group takes as its mission Acts 1:8, “But you shall receive power, after the Holy Spirit is come upon you; and you shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and in Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth.”

“We’ll be launching an outreach with one mission, one message,” Strickland said. “For us, Jerusalem is the Talladega/Sylacauga/Renfroe area, Judea is the state of Alabama and Samaria is North America. The ends of the Earth are the ends of the Earth. But we’re planning to begin projects in each of those four areas in coming years. Our one mission is the Great Commission, and our one message is the Gospel.”

There will also be registration for the AWANA Ministry, which will be realigned in the coming year, and a prayer tent for anyone who wants to take an opportunity to pray. This is an extension of the church’s telephone prayer ministry. There will also be sign-ups for Sunday school classes and missions.

Hepzibah Baptist Church is located at 5329 Renfroe Road. You can also look for them on Facebook.
