The new Hibachi Sushi Buffet in Sylacauga offers all-you-can-eat Chinese and Japanese food, with a focus on quality food and friendly service.

“My family has been in the Chinese food business for 20 years,” said Mandi Lin, co-owner of Hibachi Sushi Buffet with Sindy Huang. “For the last five years, we have combined Chinese food and Japanese food. It has been very satisfying, because a lot of people like the combination of both Chinese and Japanese food in one place.”

Hibachi Sushi Buffet is located on U.S. 280 in front of Walmart. The restaurant seats 350, and created 20 new jobs.

“A friend first told us about Sylacauga, so we came to look at this area,” Lin said. “People told us there wasn’t a big Chinese/Japanese buffet in the area. I think Sylacauga is a growing area. The main thing was that the people are very friendly. It is much easier to open a restaurant in a friendly area.”

Lin said it took a little longer than expected to open, but everything turned out really well.

“We had a soft opening Sunday and had a good number of people,” she said. “We had even more people for our grand opening Monday. We’ve heard a lot of people saying they love it.”

Lin said many customers have taken pictures of the buffet and posted them online.

“We had some people come for lunch, post pictures, and their friends came for supper,” she said.

Lin said the all-you-can-eat buffet includes sushi and hibachi at no extra cost. There is special pricing for children.

“We have hibachi steak for dinner, and our Friday and Saturday dinner buffets have all-you-can-eat snow crab legs with the buffet,” she said.

Lin said the buffet also features American food including fried chicken, french fries, mashed potatoes, chicken nuggets, pizza and more.

“We have a fresh salad bar and also ice cream and other desserts,” she said.

Lin said the restaurant uses only vegetable oil, with no MSG.

“You can dine in or grab a take-out box to go,” she said. “We also have a menu you can order off of.”

Lin said city officials have also been very supportive of the new restaurant.

“We welcome everyone to come try the restaurant,” she said. “Our focus is quality food and friendly service.”
