Youngsters in the Childersburg area are having a blast this summer at the R.S. Limbaugh Community Center’s Summer Day Camp for Kids, enjoying daily activities and weekly field trips while their parents work the day away. Recreation Department Activities Director Tova Lee said 104 youngsters signed up this year, up from 75 last year, and 65 to 70 attend each day. In these photos, the kids enjoy an inflatable water slide and Sno Biz shaved ice last week. Today they’re gone to Birmingham for bowling and a movie, and next week, they’ll have a fashion show next Tuesday, a mobile spa for the girls and a pizza party for the boys on Wednesday, a trip to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville on Thursday and an end-of-summer cookout party on Friday, the last day of the summer program. When school starts back on Aug. 7, the department’s after school program will start back with homework time, snacks and activities each school day. It costs $5 to register for the after school program, and $25 a week to attend. To register, parents or guardians should visit the R.S. Limbaugh Community Center.
