Childersburg Police on Wednesday were investigating the shooting death of a man in the Sadie Lee Homes housing community on Tuesday night. It was the third homicide in Talladega County in the last 10 days.
According to Lt. Kevin Koss, the victim was identified as D’Stephen McFarland, 20. McFarland lived in the area, Koss said.
Childersburg police responded to a call reporting a gunshot on Sadie Lee Drive at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday. When officers arrived, they discovered the body of a black man, apparently dead of a gunshot wound. The victim was later identified as McFarland, Koss said.
“We are interviewing witnesses and some people of interest,” Koss said Wednesday afternoon. No further information was available while the investigation remained ongoing.
McFarland’s killing is the first homicide in Childersburg in just over a year. Te’querius Marquez Twyman was charged with killing the mother of his children and shooting a police officer in September 2016.
Tuesday night's Childersburg case is the latest of three recent homicides in Talladega County.
