CHILDERSBURG -- The Childersburg Middle School cheerleaders have gone beyond the call of duty this year and served as more than just spirited faces on the sidelines.

They competed for the first time ever, yielding a first-place trophy, Grand Champions, and third-place trophy. They also received several trophies at UCA (Universal Cheerleaders Association) camp last summer.

Beyond the awards they have received, they have been a service to the community by donating more than $1,500 to various organizations such as St. Jude and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. They also donated more than 100 canned good items to Alabama Food Solutions and collected more than 60 pairs of shoes for the Soles for Souls school-wide campaign.

The squad's mission is to uphold school spirit, serve as leaders and be pivotal aspects of community service efforts.

Squad members include Chasity Player (captain), Amiyja Taylor (co-captain), Jada Swain (co-Captain), Madison McGowan, Madison Townsend, Jahdyn Haynes, Tamira Garrett, Alexis Paschal, Maya Vincent, Makayla Vincent, Cheyenne Cooper, Zora Cox, Brooklynne Davis, Brooklyn Rice and Makayla Vincent. Jessica Veazey is the head coach.
