City Council honors Childersburg High 4x100 relay team

The Childersburg City Council on Tuesday night issued a proclamation honoring the state champion Childersburg High School girls 4x100-meter relay team. The Lady Tigers recently won the 4x100 title for the second straight year.

CHILDERSBURG -- The Childersburg City Council on Tuesday issued a proclamation honoring the Childersburg High School girls 4x100-meter relay team, which recently won its second straight Class 4A state championship.

It was noted that all four members of the team -- Jakiah Roston, Jailah Swain, Kayja Swain and Dimima Garrett -- are underclassmen and will return next year to go for a third straight championship.

The Lady Tigers won the 2018 championship with a time of 50.15 seconds during the Alabama High School Athletic Association state meet in Mobile.

In other business, the council voted to approve a pair of departmental employment requests. The Parks & Recreation Department will be hiring 11 part-time, temporary seasonal counselors for Summer Day Camp at a rate of $7.25 per hour. The Street Department will hire two part-time, temporary seasonal workers.

Approval was given to pay invoices in the amount of $180,099.40, and the council appropriated $250 in support of the Childersburg High cheerleader squad.

During the Town Hall portion of the meeting, it was noted that the 2018 season of Childersburg Market Day will kick off Monday, May 21, from noon to 3 p.m. on the grounds of the Greater Coosa Valley Chamber of Commerce.

The next regular meeting of the Childersburg City Council will be June 5 at 6 p.m.
