SYLACAUGA -- Want to learn more about your town, its schools, government and industry, then apply for the 2019 Leadership Sylacauga class.
The Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to bring together individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences who have demonstrated talent and commitment for leadership,” said Laura Strickland, Chamber executive director.
This experience gives participants a broader understanding of the opportunities, challenges and resources found within the community in hopes of strengthening their commitment to the progress and growth of Sylacauga, while at the same time expanding on their personal leadership skills, Strickland said.
This is the program’s 28th year. It was the first leadership class formed in the area.
Leadership Sylacauga was founded by Dr. Shirley Spears, retired B.B. Comer Memorial library director, in 1991.
Throughout the leadership class process, participants will be exposed to all working aspects of the Marble City, from education, health care and government to quality of life. They will also be exposed to opportunities to identify and strengthen their leadership skills. The program will begin in August and conclude with graduation in May.
Applications are available online at www.sylacaugachamber.com.
Strickland said the Leadership team will review the applicants and determine those eligible for the program by Aug. 9. Deadline for applications is Aug. 6. Strickland said managers and applicants submitting applications will be notified with details of the first meeting on Aug. 23.
Tuition and fees can be paid by the sponsor or the individual. Participants will meet on the fourth Thursday of each month (some dates may change accordingly with holidays) for 10 months.
