SYLACAUGA -- The City Board of Education in a called meeting Thursday morning approved an out-of-state field trip, personnel items and held an executive session.

The out-of-state field trip is for Sylacauga High School students to attend an exhibit in Atlanta.

Students from Becky Wilson’s and Lisa McGrady’s classes are going to the Bodies Exhibit on Friday, Nov. 30. Wilson teaches science, while McGrady teaches health science.

The exhibition showcases human bodies that have been preserved. The exhibit displays internal organs and organic systems.

In personnel actions, the board accepted the resignation of Lauren Potts, special education teacher at Indian Valley Elementary School; and employed Calvin Jones as a substitute bus driver and Joel Jones as a half-time, nine-month custodian at Sylacauga High.

The board also went into executive session to discuss the good name and character of an individual. No action was taken in regards to the session when the board returned to open session.

The next regular board meeting will be Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 6 p.m. at the BOE Central Office.
