Talladega County Sheriff’s deputies on Monday were investigating a break-in at a convenience store by what appears to be an extremely motivated burglar.
According to Sgt. Mike Jones, someone broke into MD’s Convenience Store in Sycamore sometime between 11:55 p.m. Thursday and 12:04 a.m. Friday. The burglar stole a six pack of Steel Reserve beer valued at $4 and six packs of Marlboro cigarettes valued at $34.32. Nothing else was reported stolen.
The burglar apparently entered the store by breaking through a cinderblock wall at the rear of the building with a claw hammer. The hammer was recovered at the scene, Jones said.
Damage to the wall is estimated at $500.
Jones said investigators have identified a suspect, who was arrested on unrelated charges and remained in the Talladega County Metro Jail as of Monday afternoon.
Third-degree burglary is a class C felony in Alabama, punishable upon conviction by up to 10 years in prison.
