Those with a taste for something different in the way of food, a lot of fun and a nice way to get together had plenty of options at the Sixth Annual Taste of Lincoln Monday evening.

“We always enjoy coming and supporting this event,” said Brenda and Paul McBrayer, who have attended the Taste of Lincoln gathering for the past two or three years.

Paul McBrayer said his favorite vendor was Steve n’ Jan’s BBQ.

“The mango salsa from Caribe was great,” Brenda McBrayer said.

The couple said they like to eat at different places, and enjoyed the different tastes available at the event.

Charles Alexander, with the Logan Martin Lake Protection Association, said the LMLPA has had a booth at the Taste of Lincoln events for four years.

“We enjoy attending every year,” he said. “This helps us increase our exposure and is a great event.”

Fun Timez Travel LLC attended with a booth for the first time this year. Owner Brenda Drafahl and president Regina Hubbard said the Taste of Lincoln event provided a good way to get the word out about their business.

For Fun Timez Travel independent agents Glenda and Bobby Carlisle, this was their first time manning a booth although the couple has attended the Taste of Lincoln each year.

“It’s been very successful so far,” Glenda Carlisle said.

Attending for the first time, Coy and Pam Mills said they were glad they came.

“We tried new dishes from some of the places we haven’t been to in a while,” Pam Mills said.

Coy Mills said the couple also enjoyed tasting the variety of dishes from the places they know well.

Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department Director Roben Duncan said this year’s event was a success.

“The number of attendees was up from last year,” she said. “The atmosphere was wonderful, music in the background of people not only tasting but visiting and reminiscing. It had the feel of a family reunion.”

Duncan said the many who came out for the occasion she spoke with all gave their compliments to the many “chefs” and businesses.

“Attendees also voted on their favorite vendors in four categories,” she said.

The 2014 Taste of Lincoln winners are:

Best Taste went to Steve n’ Jan’s BBQ,

Best Dessert went to Rick’s Crossroads Grille.

Best Appetizer went to of Caribe Club & Marina/Montana Saloon & Grill.

Best Decorated Booth went to Ribbons of Hope.

“I just want to thank all the vendors who participated and all the people who came out to support the Taste of Lincoln,” Duncan said.
