TALLADEGA -- The Board of Directors for the Armstrong-Osborne Public Library in Talladega spent a little over 30 minutes in executive session Thursday evening before voting unanimously to name Vickie Harkins permanent library director. Harkins has been interim library director for more than two years.

“This is a great honor, but a great responsibility,” she said. “I appreciate the board’s unanimous decision. This appointment is a great opportunity for me.”

Harkins said she first started working at the library when she was still in high school, and has been there off and on for about 16 and a half years, by her estimate. “It really is a second home to me,” she said.

“This is my dream job,” she added. “It wasn’t an opportunity that I was really sure I would ever get.”

The vote to make her permanent director was passed by the board with very little public discussion.

The executive session was called to discuss issues relating to the good name and character of a person or persons.
