Chen Shi, 40, pleaded guilty to murder Friday in connection to a 1996 homicide.

A Chinese national pleaded guilty to a murder charge in a Calhoun County courtroom Friday for the 1996 death of a Jacksonville State University student.

Under a plea agreement, Chen Shi, 40, gets credit for four years and 263 days of time served in the Calhoun County Jail while awaiting trial for the murder of Zihui “Linda” Liu, also a Chinese national. He’ll serve the rest of a 20-year sentence — 15 years and 102 days — on supervised probation. Shi held the record for the longest stay at the Calhoun County Jail, Chief Deputy Matthew Wade said Monday.
