Weaver finished seventh in the Class 1A-3A boys state indoor track and field meet Saturday, while Piedmont was ninth and Pleasant Valley 10th.

Weaver scored 32.5 points. Piedmont had 31 and Pleasant Valley 22.5.

Weaver got a big boost from Robert Gaines, who was second in the high jump and long jump. Each of those finishes was worth eight points to the team.

American Christian Academy took the boys title with 104 points. ACA also won the girls championship with 150 points.

Pleasant Valley finished eighth in the girls standings with 18 points.

The Raiders’ Rachel Faucett placed second in the high jump where she was the defending champion. She set a meet record of 5 feet, 7 inches in 2017.

This year, she cleared 5-6 but missed on tries at 5-7 and 5-8. American Christian’s Helen Claire Edmonds cleared 5-7 and tried 5-8 but missed.

Boys basketball

Spring Garden 91, Weaver 66: Spring Garden poured in 54 points in the first half for a 26-point lead.

The Panthers shot 55.2 percent from the field and committed only five turnovers.

Spring Garden 71, Weaver 33: Spring Garden bolted out to a 23-9 lead after one period and cruised from there.

The Panthers didn't let up after intermission, outscoring the Bearcats 15-0 in the third quarter.
