High school softball teaser

Maggie Phillips did damage with both her bat and arm Wednesday, leading Alexandria to an 8-0 win over Boaz. Phillips went 1-for-3 at the plate with a home run and two RBIs. In the circle, she pitched seven shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out seven.

Alexandria (5-1) scored three runs in the first inning, two in the second and two in the third to take control early. The Valley Cubs travel to Boaz today.

The Indians (3-2) open play in the Calhoun County baseball tournament Friday at 4:30 p.m. against Jacksonville Christian.
