The Saks Wildcats remained undefeated with a mighty 49-0 homecoming victory Friday night over the B.B Comer Tigers.
The Wildcats proved they are a team to watch in their region. They ran fewer plays than the Tigers but racked up twice as much yardage. On average, the Wildcats had 10 yards a play and they committed only three penalties throughout the game. They led 42-0 at halftime.
Despite not being able to score, B.B Comer managed 133 yards of total offense. They committed only one penalty but lost two fumbles on the night.
“The big thing is that we came out and took care of business,” Saks head coach Jonathan Miller said. “We didn’t fool around in the first half. We had some early scores and some defensive stops to get our offense rolling. You know that’s what you want to do, you want to take care of business.”
What to know
—Saks ran up 281 yards of total offense on the night with 28 plays. Rio Torres rushed for 66 yards and had a touchdown off a B.B Comer fumble. Veteran running back Johnathon Cobb also rushed for 64 yards and two touchdowns. Terventius Gibbs Jr. scored the first touchdown of the game for Saks from 6 yards out.
—Two freshmen quarterbacks stepped in for the Wildcats and each got a score. Jalen McCants ran for a 24-yard score, and Sean Parnell took it in from one yard out.
—The Wildcats took advantage of a blocked punt early in the second quarter, and Tyler Smith turned it into a touchdown. Later in the second, Saks threw an interception that B.B Comer turned around and fumbled back to them. Johnathan Cobb turned that into one of his touchdowns.
—B.B Comer senior running back Jason McMillian rushed for 90 yards and Christopher Garrett rushed for 27.

—B.B Comer head coach Adam Fossett on his team: “The second half we came out and we played hard. Proud of our effort and how we’re learning. Still shooting ourselves in the foot with some mistakes. We’ve got to fix those and focus on getting better. This region is a very tough region. It’s a building process for us and we’ve got to take care of us and work on getting us better.”
—Saks is 3-0, including 1-0 in Class 3A, Region 6. The Wildcats play at Wellborn next week. B.B Comer is 0-2, including 0-1 in Region 6. The Tigers play Glencoe at home next week.
