High school basketball teaser

At White Plains, the homestanding Wildcats won a defensive battle over Cherokee County 52-46.

The Warriors led at the half 23-22, but the team were tied 37-37 at halftime.

The Wildcats used a 15-9 fourth quarter to pull out the win. Gavin Burrage led the Wildcats with a double-double (12 points, 13 rebounds).

White Plains (6-1) will play at home against Piedmont on Monday.

Anniston 72, Sylacauga 67: The Bulldogs improved to 7-2 ahead of their Monday trip to Jacksonville.

Jacksonville 49, Hokes Bluff 34: Donavon McCain scored a team-high 21 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles to victory.

Weaver 73, Saks 65: Weaver had four score in double figures in its win over Saks.

Pleasant Valley 62, Piedmont 52: Emma Hood had 19 points to lead Pleasant Valley over rival Piedmont. While sinking 7 of 10 foul shots, he was one of three Raiders to hit double figures.

Oxford 61, Talladega 48: Justyce Smith scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to record a double-double in the Yellow Jackets’ win.

Cherokee County 63, White Plains 26: At White Plains, the Warriors led 31-17 at the half and never looked back. They used a 17-5 third quarter to stretch their lead.

The Warriors hit 10 from 3-point range and were led by Jordyn Starr’s 20 points and Laney Johnson’s 15.

White Plains (6-5) was led by Angel Bozarth’s  10 points. The Wildcats will play at home Monday against Piedmont.
