SILVER LAKES --- Gary Wigington has a new Sunny King Charity Classic teammate, but he's position to chase his old teammate's record after Friday's first round.

Wigington and Freeman Fite shot an 18-under-par 54 and lead two teams --- Scott Smith-Blake Smith and Ryan Howard-Lance Evans --- by two strokes.

Seth Bryan-Chris Weaver and Chad Calvert-Chad Reavis are tied for third at 57.

Two rounds remain, but Wigington is in position to tie Randy Reaves' tourney record for being part of six championship teams. Reaves and Wigington won five together from 2000 to 2012 --- tying the team record held by Patrick Cushman-Eric Hamilton --- and Reaves won with Jeff Russell in 1997.

Wigington and Reaves announced before last year's Sunny King that it would be their last together. Reaves wanted to scale back his golfing to spend more time following his son's baseball pursuits.

Will Reaves plays for Alexandria High School.

Elsewhere in this year's Sunny King field, defending champions Garrett Burgess-Cypress Hathorn are four shots off the lead after a 58 Friday. They are tied with two other teams --- Daniel Black-Jeff Bain and Jaylon Ellison-P.J. Shields.

Ellison-Shields is another new team this year. Ellison teamed with Jeremy McGatha to win four Sunny Kings from 2003-2011, but they went their separate ways after 2013.

McGatha and Brennan Clay shot a 59 Friday and are tied with Jay Hughes-Jason Leblanc and Adrian Geeting-Kenny Wright.
