NOTEWORTHY: The winner of this one will play Saturday against either No. 1-seeded Villanova or No. 16 Radford. Those two teams play before Alabama/Virginia Tech at 5:45 p.m. on TNT. … Tide freshman guard John Petty has come off the bench in the last two games and three of the past five. He scored 18 points in 23 minutes against Kentucky in the Tide’s last contest, which was an 86-63 loss. … Alabama forward Donta Hall missed the Tide’s game against Kentucky after suffering a concussion the previous day against Auburn. Tide coach Avery Johnson said this week that Hall is “day-to-day.” … Collin Sexton averaged 26.3 points a game in three SEC tournament contests. … Sexton already has set the Tide’s single-season freshman scoring record with 590 points, beating the old mark of 554 set by James “Hollywood” Robinson in 1991. Sexton needs to make only six free throws to tie the school’s all-time record for foul shots made in a season. Sexton has 183 this season, while Jim Fulmer’s 189 in 1957 is the Alabama record. … Virginia Tech is one of only two teams to beat Virginia, the NCAA tournament's No. 1 overall seed. Tech won 61-60 in overtime at Virginia on Feb. 10.
