Jacksonville State University plans to demolish Merrill Hall while pursuing arbitration to settle a dispute with state insurers over a payout for the building, according to information presented at a meeting of JSU’s board of trustees Tuesday.

Regions Bank has offered Jacksonville State University a loan to help pay for projects like the demolition and reconstruction of tornado-damaged Merrill and Wallace halls — two projects that have been held up due to disputes over insurance valuations.
