Spring Garden is the host school for the annual Cherokee Invitational tournament this year and the 2017 tournament will be played at Spring Garden’s Dale Welsh Gymnasium starting Thursday.

“Compete at a high level,” was Spring Garden head coach Ricky Austin’s response when asked what he wanted to see from both his girls’ team and boys’ team in the Invitational.

“It’s tournament time. … I love teams that can show that they’re hungry to advance in a tournament and realize that playing in championship games is what helps you win championships down the road in bigger ones. That’s kind of been my message this week.”

Spring Garden will play Gaylesville in each of its opening games Thursday. The girls’ game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and the boys game is set for 8:30 p.m.
