At last week’s seeding meeting for the 66th annual Calhoun County basketball tournament, the Piedmont boys were seeded No. 9 by the county coaches. The Bulldogs’ first game in the tournament will be Saturday at 7:30 p.m. against No. 8 seed Wellborn. Saturday’s winner faces No. 1 seed Sacred Heart on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. Jacksonville State’s Pete Mathews Coliseum is again the venue for all tournament games.
The Bulldogs have a busy week leading up to Saturday. They were to host Class 3A, Area 10 opponent Glencoe on Tuesday. Piedmont travels to Jacksonville on Thursday. The Bulldogs play an Area 10 game at Pleasant Valley on Friday.
Piedmont lost twice last week. At Weaver on Thursday, the Bearcats defeated the Bulldogs 86-65. Piedmont led 44-41 at halftime. Easton Kirk and Austin Brazier each had a double-double in the loss.
Kirk scored 19 points and claimed 11 rebounds. Brazier had 10 points and 10 boards. Taylor Hayes tallied 14 points and dished out three assists. Carl Myers scored 10 points and added four rebounds. Weston Kirk had six points, T.J. Fairs five points and Cardavion Myers one point. T.J. Fairs added two steals and A.J. Fairs had three assists.
At home Saturday, Cherokee County downed the Bulldogs 62-58. Brazier finished with 16 points and added 12 rebounds and two steals. Hayes scored 12 points and was 4-for-4 at the free throw line. Hayes also grabbed six boards. A.J. Fairs had eight points, two assists and two steals. Derrick Baer and Weston Kirk each scored six points. Kaedon Jenkins had four points and was 2-for-2 on free throws. Easton Kirk, Carl Myers and T.J. Fairs each scored two points. Kirk and Myers had two assists apiece and Fairs added two steals.
