I am saddened to learn of the tragic death of a Jacksonville State University student as he crossed Alabama 204 at the Chief Ladiga Trail near campus.
As the parent of past and current JSU students, student safety is very important to me and my family. Pedestrian crossings should be well lit and marked and speed limits enforced. A traffic light on Alabama 204 at the Park Avenue intersection would be beneficial in decreasing the speed of traffic as it approaches campus.
I urge the Jacksonville City Council, the university and the Alabama Department of Transportation to provide the necessary protections for students.
