There’s no proof today that man-made pollution has led to an elevated number of cancer diagnoses in Cleburne County, as some people in the small town of Fruithurst believe.

That said, we’re glad the Alabama Department of Environmental Management has decided to evaluate a former ProBlend rubber plant there and determine if a “more thorough investigation” is needed.

Up here in Calhoun County, we certainly realize the dangers of environmental pollution. Monsanto’s decades of PCBs pollution in west Anniston forever altered people’s lives and a city’s reputation.

What’s needed today are concrete, scientific answers to determine where Fruithurst’s concerns go from here.
