Gov. Robert Bentley will refuse to accept Syrian refugees for relocation in Alabama, the governor announced in a press release Sunday night.

“After full consideration of this weekend’s attacks of terror on innocent citizens in Paris, I will oppose any attempt to relocate Syrian refugees to Alabama through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program," Bentley is quoted as saying in the release. "As your Governor, I will not stand complicit to a policy that places the citizens of Alabama in harm’s way.”

There is a State Department-approved refugee processing center in Mobile, though according to Bentley's release, Alabama has not accepted any Syrian refugees to date.
