An Alexandria man was struck by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon near the Oxford Exchange, officials said on Wednesday,

The man, 63, was landscaping near the entrance to the Exchange at Leon Smith Parkway around 3:30 p.m. when a 22-year-old driving a 2007 Nissan Altima traveling south struck the man, Oxford police Capt. L.G. Owens said by phone.

The victim, whom Owens declined to name, was picked up by Oxford EMS and taken to the Oxford Police Department where a helicopter landed for the patient, Owens said. The man was flown to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, the captain said.

Owens said the driver, from Jacksonville, was uninjured in the wreck.
