A Jacksonville woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Friday morning.

Senior Trooper Gregory Corble said the incident happened at 1:20 a.m., five miles south of Glencoe on U.S. 431, approximately at the 246 mile marker.

Emily Carter, 29, died from injuries sustained when the 2005 Ford Mustang in which she was a passenger was struck from behind at a high rate of speed by a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Ryan Carstarphen, 21, of Montgomery. Tracy Carter, 31, of Powder Springs, Ga., was the driver of the Mustang.

Both occupants of the Mustang were transported by air to UAB Hospital. Carter later died of her injuries at the hospital.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
