Aug. 28, 1993, in The Star: The day before yesterday, Anniston school Superintendent Dr. Paul Goodwin spread the word that children could no longer go to school outside the zones delineated for where they live. Yesterday, however, he said this applies only to new students; other students can keep attending where they are. Goodwin has sought a Justice Department ruling, but Golden Springs Principal Jan Hurd said she thinks that if the Justice Department rules against the transfers, some students and parents will be “devastated.” Only a small percentage of students in the city actually jump school zones, Goodwin said.
